Ubuntu Fully Automatic Installation
Welcome to the information platform on Ubuntu FAI at DESY, location Hamburg, provided by DESY -IT-. Here, you will find documentation on available distributions, the installation frameworks, recommended hardware, answers to frequently asked questions, and the people working on all that.
What is Ubuntu FAI ?
FAI is a non-interactive system to install, customize and manage Linux systems and software configurations on computers as well as virtual machines and chroot environments, from small networks to large-scale infrastructures and clusters.
For the DESY Ubuntu installations we integrate the following features:
- Kerberos login
- AFS
- Cups printing
- Automatic updates

The current production releases of Ubuntu FAI are :
Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS ( Long Term Support ) 32bit / 64bit
Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin LTS ( Long Term Support ) 64bit .... Upcoming in May 2012
